• In the beginning, there was Nothing, less than than that, nought, zero, zip, zilch, 0, Void... etc.
    ...

And then there was something, which created quite a paradox, where there was one thing now there are two things.
*Before I continue, we have to to all be honest with eachother, the Universe didn't just appear, it evolved! It came from something far more simplistic. In the same way that life spontanesouly came from nothing really at all, so to do the Universe emerge from a more rudimentary incarnation. Remember, things exist forever, especially existence, and the infinite soup had a lot of stirring before it came upon the complex state we observe now, and I would postulate, the Universe in it's most infant state, had to evolve the ability to die, but we can get into more of that later
Almost certainly, in the beginning, when we were our most elementary particles, there was a lot of buzzing and bumping, tiny specs of binary units, 1's and 0's, information in a cosmic tumult, and given an infinite amount of time, now here is the wrench, inevitably, some form of complex computer or digital computation mind would inevitably occur. Conway's Game of Life (RIP) just spontaneously appearing... so if we want to ask where we came from... the most mathematically likely scenario is some kind of complex computational situation.
